Don’t get me wrong, I like blogging (when I have something to talk about), but lately, the idea of vlogging has started to interest me. I guess my problem would be the editing and I know it sounds lazy, but at the moment, I am not into the idea of editing for hours. That time could be spent on writing (especially since I’m in the middle of a slump) or actually doing the reading assignments for class.
However, at the same time, I feel like it would help me out by vlogging instead of blogging, simply because I can talk a whole lot faster than I can type. It feels like I would save myself some time and I would have more to talk about, simply because I could jump from one topic to the next. Blogging is fun, but at the same time, I have to watch out for spell errors and punctuation fails whereas with vlogging, I can simply correct myself and move on. It seems ideal, not going to lie about that.
“Okay,” you say, “vlogging instead of blogging. Where would you put these videos if not on Youtube?”
I plan to post them right here and maybe half of the time, they can replace my weekly (sometimes bi-weekly) posts. I realize I am putting quite a bit of pressure on myself, trying to go to work, study, and all that, but I don’t want to call it quits on any of these things. I want to see how well I can juggle, y’know? Besides, school and work would come first anyway, but I like to think that I can multitask.
I’ve developed a new way to look at tasks, such as instead of blogging once a week, maybe I should aim for blogging five times (if not more) a month. Believe it or not, this thought releases a weight from me and it seems far more doable somehow. Perhaps I can consider vlogs as a part of my blog as well? Especially if they can count as a blog post by themselves?
“Okay,” you say, “Sounds manageable. How will you vlog?”
To that, I answer with an old Christmas gift. Around 2010 now (I think), I received a Nikon camera. The camera should still work okay, despite the one time I dropped it and some metal piece popped off. All I need are batteries and a tripod. I want these videos to seem rather casual, very “vloggish”. I could film myself talking about one of my books while getting ready for the day, or even discuss my week while heating something up in the microwave.
If I’m to be honest with you, my main concern is “being entertaining”. I doubt I’ll cross any lines in terms of content, but my blog isn’t well known and I don’t want to incur the wrath of the internet by doing something stupid. Luckily for my own sake, I have a pretty good idea of what qualifies as stupid.
I will order my technical necessities from Amazon once my next pay check comes in (I already have this month’s rent! 🙂 ) and then I can start the vlogging. I’m excited and nervous – I wanted my Youtube channel to succeed, but alas. . .
So, yes, that is where I am right now, in terms of establishing an author platform and all that magic. I know it’ll be a while before my blog gets out there, but I’m fairly certain that I want to do this. If Youtube manages to regroup in time for the next surge of creative minds, I might hop back on the website. I guess I’ll leave my channel up, for a little bit anyway.
Since I’m still updating my fanfictions, I want to post vlogs and other videos related to them on the other WordPress site that I made for them. (That was also my first blog by the way, courtesy of a seminar I went to at the SCAD Atlanta campus back when I was fourteen or fifteen.)
Here we are, my friends. Let’s see how this goes.
Are there any specific topics you want me to discuss about in my first (and incoming) vlog? Comment below!
